Fascia and soffit painting is the process of cleaning, preparing, and recoating the boards that run along the edge of your roof. It applies to timber fascias that have lost their paint protection, uPVC that has yellowed or faded over time, and aluminium rooflines that have dulled or oxidised.
It is not simply a coat of paint brushed on over whatever is already there. Done properly, fascia and soffit painting involves stripping back failing paint, treating any surface deterioration, priming correctly for the substrate, and applying specialist coatings that flex with the material through seasonal temperature changes. The preparation is what separates a finish that lasts from one that starts peeling within a year.
For timber fascias in particular, painting is also a protective measure. Bare or poorly covered timber absorbs moisture, softens, and begins to rot. Keeping the paint film intact is what keeps the board intact underneath it.

Signs Your Fascias and Soffits Need Repainting
The roofline is one of the most visible parts of any property and one of the most commonly neglected. Faded, yellowing, or peeling fascias drag down the appearance of an otherwise well-kept home and signal to anyone looking that maintenance has been deferred. A professional repaint addresses that immediately.
Beyond appearance, the practical case for keeping fascias and soffits properly coated is straightforward. Paint is the primary barrier between timber and moisture. When that barrier fails, water gets in, timber softens, and what started as a painting job becomes a replacement job at considerably greater cost. Repainting at the right time extends the life of the boards significantly and defers the need for full roofline replacement.
The difference between a professional finish and a DIY attempt comes down almost entirely to preparation and product choice. Roller applied masonry paint does not adhere correctly to uPVC and will not flex with timber through winter and summer temperature ranges. Specialist roofline coatings applied over properly prepared surfaces bond correctly, resist UV fading, and hold up through sustained weathering in a way that off-the-shelf alternatives simply do not. All work is fully guaranteed and we carry full public liability insurance.

Yes. Specialist uPVC paints bond directly to plastic surfaces and are designed to flex with the material as temperatures change through the seasons. Standard masonry or wood paints are not suitable for uPVC and will peel relatively quickly. We use products formulated specifically for roofline surfaces.
Yes. Yellowing and chalking on uPVC is UV degradation rather than structural failure. Where boards are sound, a professional repaint using the right product restores appearance and provides a durable finish that holds up to weathering. Replacement would be unnecessary in that situation.
A properly prepared and correctly coated roofline will typically hold its finish for eight to twelve years depending on the substrate, colour chosen, and exposure of the property. Dark colours on south-facing elevations tend to fade faster than lighter shades on less exposed aspects.
Yes. Colour changes are straightforward and one of the more popular reasons people choose to have the work done. Moving from white to anthracite or black is a common update that makes a significant difference to how a property looks from the street.
Repeated peeling almost always comes down to preparation and product choice. If failing paint is not fully removed before recoating, or if a non-specialist product is applied to uPVC or primed timber, adhesion fails relatively quickly. We strip back to a sound base and apply the correct primer and topcoat for the specific substrate.
For single-storey properties we generally work from ladders or a tower. Two-storey and larger properties typically require a tower or scaffold to work safely and reach all sections of the roofline properly. We confirm access requirements during the site visit and include any access costs in the quotation.
Painting over rotten timber does not resolve the underlying problem and is not something we would recommend. Where rot is present we will identify it during the assessment and advise on whether the affected section needs replacing before painting can proceed. In many cases this involves replacing a short run rather than the full roofline.
If the boards are structurally sound, solid when pressed, and holding their fixings properly, painting is likely the right option. If they are soft, crumbling, or pulling away from the roofline, replacement makes more sense. We assess each property individually and give you a clear, honest recommendation.
